Intro

In 2006 I began a revolutionary e-learning program for serious students of the classical guitar. Today there are over 20 E-Students from all over the globe participating in the program and many of them have progressed through the first couple Phases.  I feel immense gratitude and happiness to watch these students grow in this program and connect to music in ways that were previously not possible for them.

In launching this program I have become aware of the vast number of students who are teaching themselves how to play the Classical Guitar.  I have met many of them on the few guitar forums I visit in my work. I am often moved by their determination to learn this complex instrument, and understand their frustration when things go wrong. From these feelings I am offering a new service to those serious self-taught students who want to learn the Classical Guitar. It is my sincere hope that this new service (Assessment Consultations) will help the self-taught student to find proper direction in an affordable way. It is my intent with this new service to bring the Kritzer Studio Mission statement, “Classical Guitar for Everyone” closer to reality.

Assessment Consultations

To learn the Classical Guitar it is best if a student work directly with a private instructor.  Sometimes situations exist where a student cannot afford regular lessons or find a local qualified private instructor and as a result they are left to the enormous task of self-teaching.  Many self-taught students, during the course of learning, wonder where they are in terms of technique, musicality or repertoire selection.

Another possible scenario where an assessment consultation might be useful is the scenario where a student under the direction of a teacher simply wants to confirm their path.

The only sure way to get constructive and accurate feedback is to consult with a competent set of eyes and ears. Friends and audience members are usually poor judges of ones ability as they most often do not have trained eyes and ears and their instinct is to encourage a player rather then to guide them.  Forum responses to questions on feedback are varied and the student is left to sift through the answers to find the right answers.  Regular feedback is a big differentiator between a self-taught player and a player in regular lessons.  In the absence of regular feedback, an assessment report from a competent instructor may serve to guide a self-taught student.

Assessment through the Phases

Students who purchase assessments receive the exact same quality instruction that regular e-learning and private students receive and it is entirely possible for a student to work though all of the phases of my program though taking assessments.  Ultimately it will be more expensive this way and not as ideal but if a student lacks the time and must work at their own slower pace or lacks funds to finance a full phase upfront this might serve as a good alternative.
