My wife, Gayle, and I are thinking about coming out to Portland together for a few days before CGI (she would fly back the morning after Scott's concert). I'd like to ask locals, or others who know the area, for suggestions on where to go for about 2 & 1/2 days before CGI. Ideas I have had are to go to Crater Lake (perhaps a park lodge) or to the coast (I have been to conferences at Salishan Resort before). Neither of us has been to Crater Lake and Gayle has not been to the coast. Any other suggestions of places we should consider, or does anyone have any favorite hotels or bed and breakfasts near the coast or the mountains?

Thanks for your input.
Cheers,
Tom

Tom, if you wanted to see parts of southern Oregon, and visit an incredible historic lodge, think about spending a night or two at the Chateau at the Oregon Caves. We're celebrating the 75th year of this
historic lodge, and it's quite an experience to drive up to it and stay in it. Great food, wonderful service. Google Oregon Caves Chateau and take
a look. Ask Scott and Karla what they thought of it when they came down to play there.

It's on the way to the southern coastal towns of Crescent City, Brookings,
and Harbor, and might be a nice trip for you.

Thanks for that suggestion Sue. I googled it and it does indeed look inviting.

Tom

One of the great things about Oregon and the Pacific Northwest is it's varied terrain. We have a beautiful desert, 11,000 ft mountains, (year round skiing), the ocean, and raging rivers. Oh and the Columbia Gorge which rivals anyplace in the world for beauty!

The question is how far you want to wander from Portland, do you like to get out and drive or head to one place and hunker in?

We've made our plane reservations to fly into Porland on Thursday. So we'll have Friday and Saturday to travel before heading back into Portland for Sunday. I'm thinking going over to the coast where I have been but not Gayle. But since neither of us have seen the Columbia River Gorge, that's a possibility too. I'm not interested in too much driving since we have not left ourselves that much time.
